About Math Bridge

“Engineering Math Bridge” is an intensive algebra and trigonometry review program for beginning freshman engineering students. As an incoming freshman, this program is designed to help you:

  • Assess your math background and prepare for Calculus
  • Enhance your student skills
  • Develop problem-solving strategies
  • Experience cooperative learning in a college environment
  • Meet and build relationships with other incoming freshmen
  • Review and prepare to take or re-take the Math Placement Exam (MPE) (given on the last day of the program (optional))

Who should attend?

Any student planning on majoring in Engineering at USA who has placed in MA 110, MTH 100, MA 112, MA 113, or MA 125 who would like to review their math skills and potentially move up one math level is encouraged to attend Math Bridge.

The online registration form is at the bottom of the page.

How do I Know?

All incoming freshmen and transfer students who have not taken a college-level math class will be placed in a math course based on their Math ACT score. Students without ACT scores or previous math credit will be required to take the Math Placement Exam which is offered only through the Math Department. This exam is free (may have ProctorU fees associated with it), but can only be taken one time. However, students who participate in Math Bridge and have taken the placement exam are allowed to take it a second time upon completing the Math Bridge Program.

Program Dates: Monday, August 14th - 18th

The Bridge Program will be held the week before classes begin in August. The program will begin on Monday, Aug. 14th at 8:00 a.m. and end each day (excluding Friday, Aug. 18th) at 5:00 p.m.

Instruction and study sessions will take place from 8:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday with breaks for breakfast and lunch. Friday morning students will either take or retake the Math Placement Exam. Students who improve to a new math level will be assisted in changing their schedules Friday afternoon.
