USA Health University Hospital and USA Health Children's & Women's Hospital

USA Health University Hospital and USA Health Children's & Women's Hospital serve as the primary patient care facilities utilized for medical-student and resident training. University Hospital features Mobile's only Level I Trauma Center while Children's & Women's Hospital is dedicated specifically to the healthcare needs of children and women along the central Gulf Coast.

 

The University of South Alabama (USA) is a state-supported institution located in Mobile, Alabama. After opening to 264 students in 1964, USA now has a diverse and rapidly growing enrollment of over 16,000 in the undergraduate programs, graduate school and the Whiddon College of Medicine.

The College of Medicine provides all facets of medical education, research and patient care. Medical education in the College of Medicine starts on the main university campus in the Medical Sciences Building (MSB) which houses lecture halls, anatomy laboratories, a surgical skills laboratory, and standardized patient rooms. Adjacent to the MSB are the Small Group Learning Center and Patient Simulation Laboratories.

University Hospital and Children’s & Women’s Hospital serve as the primary patient care facilities for the College of Medicine. Other clinical training facilities are located on USA Health Springhill campus, USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute, Strada Patient Care Center, Stanton Road Clinic, Mobile Infirmary Medical Center, and at a number of family medicine preceptor sites throughout Alabama. Within the two university hospitals are housed all major specialties including the Fanny Meisler Trauma Center, the only Level I trauma center on the upper Gulf Coast; Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; Arnold Luterman Regional Burn Center; Pulmonary Hypertension Program; USA Center for Healthy Communities; as well as coronary, medical, neurotrauma, pediatric and surgical intensive care units.
