Dual Role (Family NP/Emergency NP)

All students in the Dual FNP/ENP (Family NP/ Emergency NP) specialty are required to attend three* mandatory on-campus Clinical Skills Intensives (CSI) provided by the USA Simulation Program beginning in 2023.

The first two clinical skills intensive provides hands-on instruction for common advanced practice assessments and procedures pertinent to the specialty clinicals starting that fall. The third phase includes simulation scenarios and standardized patient encounters to demonstrate clinical skills for evaluation prior to completing the program. 

Students must sign-up to attend one session for each phase and can select preferred dates on a first come, first serve basis. Simulation will contact students with information via JagMail on how to sign-up three months prior to the scheduled dates.

Please note the dates are for Clinical Skills Intensives only. The track coordinator may provide orientation dates, which are separate from CSI and Simulation.

Phase 1: The first mandatory CSI will cover FNP clinical skills during the summer semester before the student is enrolled in the first clinical course NU 582.

Phase 2: The second mandatory CSI will cover emergency skills  just prior to summer semester enrolled in NU 585. 

ENP Phase 2 Clinical Skills Intensive Dates

• Session 1 – May 2-4, 2023
• Session 2 – May 8-11, 2023

*Students who completed the 4 day FNP-ENP CSI in 2022 are not required to attend Phase 2 in 2023, unless specifically required by the College of Nursing.

Phase 3: The third mandatory CSI will be during the fall semester when the student is enrolled in the last clinical course NU 588.

BSN-MSN students complete all support, MSN core, MSN specialty courses for a total of 57 credit hours.  The MSN degree must be completed within five years.

The University of South Alabama Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program provides the skills necessary for a rewarding career. Graduates are prepared to complete the appropriate national certification exam and may be eligible to apply for licensure to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
