How Do I Apply

▼   1 - Read About Who May Apply

We are looking for students who are fascinated by new ideas and experiences, and who want to be part of a community of like-minded students and faculty. Often this means that our applicants will have an ACT Composite score of 27 or above (or SAT equivalent), a high school GPA of at least 3.5, and status as a first-year college student. We also suggest that students who do not have a 27 or higher on their ACT and a GPA of 3.5 or higher address this point directly in their application. Explain unique or extenuating circumstances, and/or why you expect to perform at an honors level while in College. And if you meet these requirements, you may also reach out to us, but you also can just go ahead and apply! Either way, read on…

▼   2 - Apply to South

Apply to South using the link below:

It is best to apply by November 15, though you may apply later.

▼   3 - Apply to the College

Apply to the Honors College via the Honors Application after you are accepted to the University. The Honors College is currently considering applications for fall 2022 on a rolling basis. Please be sure to complete your application as soon as possible for consideration.

Through the Honors Application you will give the names of two recommenders, teachers or other people who know you well and who would be able to provide an objective evaluation of your abilities and intellectual curiosity. We ask for names, but may not request the letters themselves, so don't be concerned if your references are not contacted.

You also will submit a short (500-word) essay around the one-word prompt provided in the application.

▼   4 - Interview

Interviews may be required during the month of February.

▼   5 - Accept

The Honors College will send you its decision in March or April. If you receive an offer and choose to accept it, you will begin with the Honors College at the start of the Fall Semester. Students admitted to this college will receive the freshman scholarship for which they are qualified, and may be eligible for additional Whiddon Scholarship funds. All Honors College students also receive funded opportunities for experience learning such as travel to local and regional museums and cultural locations, lectures, the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, plays, and musical performances.
