Web-based Training Program for Bloodborne Pathogens

Introduction

This training program was developed by the CAHP Biosafety Officer (CBO) to provide you with essential information concerning blood-borne pathogens exposure control principles and practices.  It is vitally important that you become familiar with its contents.  

This program will be revised by the CBO annually in order to provide you with the most current information available.

The program is intended for all CAHP students, staff and/or faculty who have a reasonable, anticipated risk of occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens.  Completion of this training will satisfy as both to initial and/or annual blood borne pathogen training requirements.

Note: Additional site-specific training may be required by your clinical rotation facility.

Instructions

Read through the information provided in Topics 1-4. After reading through each session, you will be required to take a an exam. You must pass with a 80% score to receive credit for this course.  Individuals not passing the exam on the first attempt shall review all training areas before retaking the exam.  You are allowed a total of three attempts to pass this exam.

  1. Bloodborne Pathogens
    The basics ... which ones, transmission routes, etc.
  2. Exposure Control Plan
    Review of protective mechanisms to preclude occupational exposure.
  3. Incident Response/Reporting
    Actions to take during a potential exposure.
  4. Prevention
    Avoiding a potential exposure.
