Biography

Samantha Anselmo (she/her), soprano, currently teaches voice, Diction for Singers, and Introduction to Music on faculty at the University of South Alabama. Her voice students participate in different competition categories throughout the year including classical, commercial music, and musical theater.

Ms. Anselmo was a finalist in the Madame Rose Palmai- Tenser Competition hosted by Mobile Opera in 2016, 2019, and 2020. She was also a finalist in the 2022 John Alexander Voice Competition with Opera Mississippi and the NSAL Dorothy- Lincoln Smith Voice Competition in Birmingham. She performs throughout the year with many local groups and can be seen in numerous engagements with Opera Mississippi. Some of her favorite moments on stage include Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, First Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, and Gianetta in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore.

Samantha Anselmo graduated from the University of South Alabama with a Master of Music degree before beginning her doctoral studies. During her Master's degree at South, she coached undergraduates, taught courses, and assistant-directed L’elisir d’amore while performing as Gianetta, all as part of her duties as graduate assistant. Prior to her graduate studies, Samantha graduated from the University of Montevallo where she obtained a double-concentration Bachelor of Music degree in Choral Music Education and Vocal Performance. After graduating, Samantha received certification for Level I of the Kodály Method in Birmingham.
