The USA Department of Health, Kinesiology, and Sport offers bachelor's degrees with majors, minors and concentrations in the below programs.

 


Majors

Exercise bike

Exercise Science, B.S.

The exercise science major provides a scientific core that allows the student to gain an understanding of human anatomy and physiology and how exercise impacts the body.

Health Education - 6-12 Teacher Certification, B.S.

The health education (6-12) Program prepares teacher candidates to plan, implement and evaluate health programs in the grades 6-12.

Physical Education - P-12 Teacher Certification, B.S.

The physical education (P-12) program prepares teacher candidates to plan, implement and evaluate physical education programs in the elementary, middle and secondary schools.

The health education (6-12) and physical education (P-12) program is a dual teacher certification program designed to prepare students to teach health education and physical education in schools.

Health Promotion, B.S.

The bachelor's degree program in health is designed to help non-teacher certification students enter the field of health in community, medical care, workplace, college and university settings.

Recreational Therapy, B.S.

The Bachelor of Science in Recreational Therapy degree program at South prepares students to become certified recreational therapists. Graduates of this program are professionals committed to helping persons with disabilities and those marginalized by conditions that affect self-determination, independence and quality of life.

Sport Management and Recreational Studies, B.S.

Students may pursue a bachelor's degree with a concentration in sport administration or coaching administration to be prepared for a variety of positions in the sport, recreation, and athletics industries.

 

Minors and Certificates

Sport Management and Recreation Studies Minor

The minor in sport management and recreation studies is open to students majoring in any discipline. The minor is ideal for business, communication and interdisciplinary studies majors.

Health and Wellness Minor

The minor in health and wellness provides students knowledge and skills to complement their major degree. Students completing this minor will obtain CPR and First Aid certification.

Performance Nutrition Minor

The Performance Nutrition minor is designed to enhance competency in nutritional concepts and strategies as they relate to human performance, sport, and exercise adaptations.

Coaching Certificate

The coaching certificate is a 21-hour academic program, completed in two years. Students from any discipline may complete the program, which is intended to give students with coaching aspirations at all levels of athletic competition a solid foundation for a successful career in coaching.
