Course Reserve

Students

Students can search our Course Reserves to see if there are items being held in the MCOB Library for a particular class or instructor. Ask to check out items on Course Reserve at the Library’s main desk. We will need to know the course abbreviation and number (ex: MGT 300) and/or instructor’s name.

Instructors

Instructors may place physical items on Course Reserve in the MCOB Library by completing the form. When completing the form, please enter the same title that will be used on the class syllabi.

Course Reserve materials (books, media, etc.) will be processed as they are received. Please allow five working days for the items to be processed. The MCOB Library follows all U.S. Copyright Laws in regards to placing items on Course Reserve. Please note that some publishers, such as Harvard Business School Press, will not allow their materials to be placed on Course Reserve (or linked directly from Canvas). 

If materials need to be pulled from the collections of the USA Libraries, fill in the call number and we will retrieve the item for processing. Non-library owned materials such as personal copies of books, print journal articles, chapters from books, tests, media, etc., must be delivered to the MCOB Library Desk in person. Call numbers and barcodes will then be assigned and affixed to each item. 

An inventory of your Course Reserve material is recommended each semester. Reserve materials are in closed stacks with limited charge-out periods; they are not readily available to all library users. Please help us make them available by canceling course reserve materials when they are no longer required for a class.

The USA Libraries no longer put items on electronic reserve, as this is best accomplished through Canvas, the Course Management System. If you need assistance linking material acquired by the USA Libraries (articles, book chapters, videos, etc.) in Canvas, please contact Amia Baker at amiabaker@southalabama.edu or (251) 460-7998. 

While instructors can’t link directly to publications by Harvard Business School Press, the Library can provide written directions or short videos demonstrating how students may locate these materials, which can be included in Canvas.
