Undergraduate students studying at the University of South Alabama Stokes School of Marine and Environmental Sciences are guided by a world-renown faculty with expertise ranging from fisheries sciences to marine ecology and ocean physics. Outside of classroom experiences, students have access to a variety of internship opportunities where they can gain hands-on experience prior to graduation.

Sea Turtle/Biological Technician

Summer interns (3-4) are hired to work and live on Blackbeard Island National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge is only accessible by boat - boat transportation provided). Majority of responsibilities involve monitoring threatened loggerhead sea turtle nests. Duties include: locating sea turtle nests, installing predator controls, inventorying nests, collecting, recording, and inputting data into seaturtle.org. Interns may participate in education/outreach, invasive species monitoring, shorebird surveys, control for feral hogs and invasive plants, and trail maintenance.

Dog River Clearwater Revival (DRCR) Seeks Intern for JAN-APRIL 2023 assisting with 8th Annual MudBottom Revival Music Festival Fundraiser

DRCR is seeking 2 unpaid interns to assist with organizing our 8th annual MudBottom Revival Music Festival. This is our biggest fundraiser event of the year. All proceeds raised have a direct impact on water quality and fund our ongoing Dog River improvement projects.

Specifically, we need someone to help with Fundraising (sponsor solicitation) and Art/Merch (event signage, t-shirts, and merchandise). You would be working under and assisting our seasoned Committee members. Your time commitment would be minimal, likely around 5 hours per week at the most, 40 hours max total between the months of January-April.

You would also be invited to attend the event free of charge of course! It is always a fun event!

2023 UNOLS-MATE At-Sea Technical Internship Program

The U.S. Academic Research Fleet of UNOLS-designated research ships will host 1 long-term (approximately 6 months) and 12-14 short-term (4-16 weeks each) marine technical internships in 2023 (subject to funding). Departure dates will depend on the schedule of each research cruise. We will first select candidates for internships starting in Spring, and then in Summer and Fall.

UCSC Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program

Each March we select 20 early-undergraduate Scholars from around the country to participate in a two-year conservation mentorship program focused on the summers between academic years.  Each summer Scholars receive a $4,600 stipend plus funding to cover travel, room, and board.

DISL REU Program
