The Gulf Shellfish Institute (GSI) seeks a qualified and motivated Staff Scientist to support its mission of applied shellfish research.
GSI is a non-profit, scientific research organization based in Palmetto, Florida dedicated to advancing shellfish aquaculture and restoration. This position will be responsible for core scientific activities at GSI as it embarks in a state-wide Initiative to evaluate the efficacy of co-restoration strategies for bivalves and seagrass. - Biological Scientist IV (77072667) will work with the FWC federal fisheries section and will be based in Northeast Florida. Chris Sweetman (Christopher.Sweetman@MyFWC.com) is the contact for the Fed Fisheries position.
- The Biological Scientist IV (77072865) will work with the DMFM Analysis and Rule Making Section and will coordinate our regional inshore recreational fisheries management. Last year FWC implemented a new regional management approach that incorporates additional metrics to guide management on a smaller regional scale, making the agency more effective and responsive to local concerns. More information on this new approach and examples of annual fishery reviews can be found here. The successful candidate for this position will coordinate this new management approach and develop annual reviews of the fishery. Osprey Initiative is hiring part-time and full-time field technicians to monitor and maintain several of our trash collection devices in the Mobile, Alabama area. This effort is part of a larger project to investigate methods to remove and reduce trash in our waterways.
