Minor in Applied Linguistics

Word cloud for foreign language

"All communication involves faith; indeed, some linguisticians hold that the potential obstacles to acts of verbal understanding are so many and diverse that it is a minor miracle that they take place at all."-- Terry Eagleton, Reason, Faith, and Revolution: Reflections on the God Debate

What is Applied Linguistics

Applied Linguistics is an interdisciplinary field that investigates and offers solutions to language-related problems in the world. Applied linguistics relies on the theories and findings of linguistics, together with the experiences and needs of language users, to engage real-world issues at the intersections of language and society, language and education, and language and power.

The Minor in Applied Linguistics will expose you to a field of study that equips you to think critically about the language learning process, and to build a deeper understanding of how languages are both learned and taught successfully.
