Melissa R. Walter
Bio
Melissa Walter is an Instructor in the Department of Communication at the University of South Alabama. Before joining the faculty, Ms. Walter worked for the Innovation in Learning Center where she provided learning management system support and worked closely with faculty to enhance the quality of their online and blended courses. She spent several years as the Quality Matters Coordinator for the University overseeing online and blended course quality certification efforts.
Ms. Walter teaches a variety of courses in the Communication Studies program where she integrates new technology and a variety of teaching practices to prepare students for their future careers. Her current interests include leveraging generative AI and the use of reflection as a learning activity. She enjoys interacting with a variety of student populations, teaching courses for First Year Experience, Honors College, and dual-enrollment high school students through the Start South program.
Ms. Walter received a bachelor's degree in psychology, a master's degree in communication, and a master’s degree in instructional design from the University of South Alabama.
