Phd in Business Administration Management Concentration

The study of management ranges from exploring CEO decision-making to investigating how the workplace environment impacts individual employees. Across the history of management research, important insights have informed business leaders on efficient and effective techniques to leverage human capital and ensure firm-level strategies lead toward competitive advantage.

Students in the management track of the MCOB PhD program gain exposure to each of the main research areas in management and have opportunities to partner with faculty and other students on active research projects (many of which are presented at premier regional and national conferences).

 Typical Research Areas

▼   Organizational Behavior

Organizational behavior is the study of people in the workplace. Research in this area covers topics such as motivation, team dynamics, attitudes and emotions, among other factors that influence employee and team performance.

▼   Human Resource Management

Human resources management researchers study the varying policies and practices that impact organizational effectiveness by leveraging human capital. This research ranges topics such as training and development, personnel selection, and strategic human resources.

▼   Strategic Management

Strategic management is the study of organizational level decision-making. This research investigates topics such as CEO/Top Management Team processes, mergers and acquisitions, and other firm-level processes that impact organizational performance.

▼   Leadership

There is an added emphasis on the study of leadership in the management track. Leadership research has evolved over the last 80 years, and students are exposed to traditional theories of leadership and the modern, innovative approaches that dominate the literature today.
