Dr. Amelia Baldwin

Dr. Amelia Baldwin

Dr. Amelia A. Baldwin, Professor of Accounting, has taught accounting since 1987. She is a native Alabamian who has lived in many states (Virginia, Michigan, Ohio, Oregon, Florida, Arkansas), a couple of foreign countries (Australia, Thailand), and all over Alabama. She earned three degrees in accounting and information systems from Auburn (BS, MAc) and Virginia Tech (PhD). She has published over 60 research articles in academic journals on accounting-related topics, mostly about emerging technologies, learning, or accounting labor markets.  She primarily teaches courses in the MAcc and in the PhD program in Business Analytics. 

In her spare time, she enjoys cycling, swimming, reading science fiction, writing letters to her pen pals with her collection of fountain pens, and hanging out with her husband. She enjoys travel, especially to Europe. She has spent many summer days in Germany, Sweden, and Belgium, three of her favorite destinations. She speaks German at the B1 level and is learning to read Sanskrit.

Dr. Tiffany DeRoy

Dr. Tiffany DeRoy

Dr. DeRoy is an Assistant Professor and the Director of the MAcc Program at the University of South Alabama, where she teaches courses in business taxation, data analytics in accounting, accounting information systems, QuickBooks, federal tax research, and advanced information systems.

With over 20 years of experience in public accounting and five years in private accounting for manufacturing and publicly traded companies, she brings extensive industry expertise to her role. Dr. DeRoy served eight years in the U.S. Navy, specializing in budgeting and inventory management, and earned both a BSBA and a Master’s in Accounting from the University of South Alabama, followed by a PhD in Accounting from Kennesaw State University.

Her research interests include accounting technology, practical tax strategies, and intervention strategies for enhancing the accounting profession.

Dr. Tristan Johnson

Dr. Tristan Johnson

Tristan is an Assistant Professor of Accounting in the Mitchell College of Business at the University of South Alabama (Mobile, Alabama). He earned his Ph.D. from Florida State University (Tallahassee, Florida) in 2018 and his B.S. from Drexel University (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) in 2009.

Following his graduation from Drexel, Tristan worked as an auditor for regional and local public accounting firms. Tristan is a licensed CPA (Alabama). His primary teaching interest is financial accounting, and his primary research interests include the supply and demand for accountants and the determinants and consequences of regulation in accounting.

Dr. Christine Xin

Dr. Christine Xin

Dr. Xin is an associate professor of accounting at the University of South Alabama. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses, specifically, auditing and advanced auditing & analytics. Dr. Xin also teaches governmental accounting and not-for-profit. She holds a PhD in Accountancy from Rutgers University and also attended NYU as a visiting PhD student.

Prior to joining South, Dr. Xin worked as an assistant professor of accounting at the University of Louisville and interned at PCAOB as an economic analyst. 

Her research interests are in financial accounting and auditing areas, such as disclosure, accounting conservatism, insider trading, financial analysts, audit fees, and audit markets.  Dr. Xin is also interested in cutting-edge topics like blockchain, whistleblowing, ESG, remote audit, and religiosity.
