CDHP Basic

The primary goal of the BASIC course is to establish a common nomenclature, an understanding of the basics of disaster healthcare preparedness, and further the development and sustainment of the Healthcare Coalitions, healthcare associations and healthcare facilities in Alabama. CDHP BASIC is designed for those who have never attended CDHP, as well as those who would like a refresher course on a basic, core disaster response training curriculum. Additionally, CDHP considers input for course material from Healthcare Coalitions needing to meet identified gaps to strengthen Community Resilience, Incident Management, Information Management, Countermeasures and Mitigation, Surge Management, and Bio-surveillance. CDHP BASIC key topics are timely, updated and consistent with both existing and developing threats faced by the healthcare, public health, disaster response communities, as well as those required by HPP and overlapping PHEP programs. The USA CDHP curriculum consists of best practices and key courses from previous CDHP sessions. Guidance from ADPH CEP, Healthcare Coalitions, healthcare associations, healthcare facilities, HPP Guidelines and feedback received through course evaluations were considered in delivering the following proposed topics, either as a standalone module, or a component of a module:

CDHP BASIC is a 2-day course delivered to Healthcare Coalition members consisting of key administrative, and, clinical and non-clinical staff of hospitals, nursing homes, community health centers, public health, emergency management, emergency response and public safety agencies, mental health facilities, specialty healthcare service facilities and all other prospective healthcare coalition members.

Class size will be limited to 60 per session at the CDHP classroom on campus at the University of South Alabama, or, to be determined by the room capacity of an off-campus location if more than 100 seats are needed.

CDHP Onsite

USA CDHP offers preparedness and response Onsite activities to Healthcare Coalitions across the State.  These activities are hosted at any location the HCC chooses.  The primary goal is to broaden HCC participation by hosting regional sessions, inviting regional response partners, enhancing collaboration and membership participation in the Healthcare Coalitions. Onsite activities can include, but are not limited to workshops, planning sessions, training, coalition activities, COVID-19 After Action Reviews and Corrective Action Planning, and any other session requested by the Healthcare Coalitions to improve readiness, response, continuity and patient surge capacities and capabilities.  Onsite training will also include topics as identified through HCC gaps, member needs and interests and any HCC requirement as defined in the HPP 2017-2022 Healthcare Preparedness and Response Capabilities. CDHP Simulation

Using the best practices identified as a result of recognized needs, CDHP in partnership with the University of South Alabama’s Simulation Department has will designed, developed and delivers interactive training in the form of simulated clinical scenarios:

• Triage and Rapid Assessment during Mass Casualty events
• Decontamination of patients
• Chemical Exposures – signs and symptoms
• Evacuation of critical patients
• Physical assessment (basic) refresher courses
• Mass casualty clinical activities in both healthcare facilities and field environments

• Other specific topics agreed to by CDHP and ADPH/CEP

USA CDHP offers ten disaster preparedness clinical simulation training sessions. Class size will be limited to 25 per session.

The Administrative Session is a two-day course designed for Chief and Administrator level personnel charged with disaster response and/or preparedness for their organizations. The course is designed to enhance disaster leadership and critical decision making skills. The session hosts internationally and nationally recognized presenters that speak to relevant topics advancing healthcare preparedness and response to disasters. It will also provide a platform for knowledge exchange, reinforcement of lessons learned, and a sharing of recent updates and federal/state guidance, specifically emergency/disaster management issues identified from previous disaster responses.
