*Statement 1

I understand that the University of South Alabama does not operate under a promise to pay basis. Any tuition, fees, or related debts that are due to the University of South Alabama are mine to pay. Any debts that the University of South Alabama may incur because I, the student, have added classes, dropped classes, or failed classes due to non-attendance, will be my responsibility. Furthermore, I understand that if I use a transferred benefit, the service member must complete their obligation to the United States Department of Defense or any future debts will be mine to bear.

*Statement 2

I understand that I must submit a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to the Office of Veteran Affairs (OVA) at the University of South Alabama within one (1) semester of having first been certified for VA educational benefits. I acknowledge that if I do not have a submitted COE within one semester, the OVA will not continue to certify my US VA educational benefits going forward and will only resume certifying me once I have submitted a valid COE.

*Statement 3

I understand and acknowledge that I must request certification each semester that I choose to use my VA educational benefits. Information on how to request certification can be found at https://www.southalabama.edu/departments/veteransaffairs/varequestforcertification.html. I understand that all requests are processed in the order that they are received and it is my responsibility, as the student, to ensure that the OVA has received my request. If I fail to request certification, or fail to request certification in a timely manner, the OVA can make no guarantee that my request will be processed before any deadlines. If this happens, I may be dropped from all courses and/or incur financial penalties.

*Statement 4

I understand that not all VA educational benefits (commonly known as the GI BILL®) pay for tuition or fees. It is my responsibility to know which benefit I am using and what it will and will not pay.

*Statement 5

I understand that the OVA is also given a timeline by the US Department of Veteran Affairs in which it must certify the students they are responsible for. As such, I will allow OVA 30 days to process my request within the deadlines set forth by the US VA.

*Statement 6

I acknowledge that once I have been certified, the OVA will place a registration hold on my student account. This hold only prevents me from adding or dropping courses. It is in not, nor is intended to be, a penalty. If I choose to add or drop a course from my schedule, the OVA will allow me to do so. To add or drop a course, I will request that the OVA drop the hold on my account so I can make the change. As such, I also acknowledge that I have 24 hours to make the changes and notify the OVA.

*Statement 7

I fully understand that the US VA will not pay for audited courses, repeated courses for which I have already received a passing grade, and courses that are unrelated to my degree program.

*Statement 8

I fully understand that the US VA expects me to complete my attempt at any course I am enrolled in and that if I fail due to non-attendance, I will incur a VA debt.
