The Noyce Science Teacher, Research, Education and Methods (STREAM) program at the University of South Alabama provides scholarship funding and a stipend to support students earning an Alternative Master of Education in General Science to become a certified middle or high school (6-12) science teacher in high needs schools.

Through the STREAM program, you can…
- learn and experience science in the upper Gulf Coast.
- attend excursions at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, Mobile Baykeeper, Mobile Environmental Center, Airbus Flightworks and more.
- receive one-on-one support during the program from South faculty.
- have opportunities to engage in research with South faculty and travel and present your research at national and regional conferences.
- receive mentoring and professional development support during your first three years of teaching.
- join the Noyce teacher family of more than 45 South alumni who stay connected to this day.
- earn approximately $62,941 as a first-year science teacher in Alabama.
▼ Steps to Become a STREAM Scholar
- Complete the STREAM Interest Form by the end of spring semester (April)
- The STREAM program director will schedule an initial screening call with the applicant (May-June)
- Complete the pre-residency application by the end of the summer (July)
- Complete the pre-residency experience in the fall semester and receive a $2,000 stipend (August - December)
- Provide a presentation to the STREAM leadership committee about your pre-residency experience (December)
- Complete the STREAM application and sign a contract (December)
- Complete an official application to the USA Graduate School (December)
- Successfully pass the General Science Praxis - Test Code 5436 (December)
- Receive the STREAM program scholarship of $40,000, which covers tuition, fees and books and includes a housing stipend (January)
- Start graduate school STREAM program classes (January/spring semester)
- Graduate four semesters later (spring semester)
