Memberships, Master Agreements and Affiliations

Galapagos Science Center

The University of South Alabama is a member of the Galapagos Science Center (GSC) Consortium in San Cristobal on the Galapagos Archipelago, Ecuador. Internal Travel Grants are available from South for establishing collaborations and pursuing pilot research.  The University will provide up to $3000.00 for travel to establish linkages with the GSC.  Please see this link for details. The Galapagos are stunning, rich environments for research and education and other academic endeavors. Opportunities include both faculty and graduate and undergraduate research as well as providing topical study-abroad courses. The membership in the Consortium facilitates collaborative relationships for USA students and faculty with GSC as well as UNC Chapel Hill and the University of San Francisco de Quito.

The lead institutions are the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) with other University members. South also has an MOU with USFQ.

• The opportunities with USFQ in Quito include research, faculty exchanges, student exchange, undergraduate and health related residencies and short-term internships.
• The Center has extensive laboratory facilities and instrumentation that are available for members.
• GSC also has established relationships with the Community that is critical for research on or about the archipelago.

The focus is on field and laboratory research but also encourages studies of the community health and well-being.

2. The biotic aspects of the terrestrial & marine systems of the Galapagos Archipelago.

7. Health related research and services
8. Human nutrition and psychosocial interactions.
9. Civil and Coastal Engineering
